The Camino da Geira e dos Arrieiros crosses the Deza region following ancient Roman routes and traditional paths. It is a quiet and distinctive route through hills, villages and traces of Galicia’s rich historical past.

Roman heritage

It follows part of the Via Nova, or Roman Geira XVIII, a road that connecting Braga and Astorga two thousand years ago and preserves remains along its route.

Camino de los arrieros

Its name recalls the mule drivers who once travelled these paths between villages and markets, turning them into an important historical communication route.

Heritage among the hills

As it passes through Forcarei and A Estrada, it preserves historic bridges, wayside crosses and old cobbled paths among forests and small parishes.

STAGE 1

Beariz - Codeseda

The Camino da Geira e dos Arrieiros enters the province of Pontevedra via Pico de Costoia and crosses hills, villages and old muleteers’ paths to Codeseda. The route passes through Soutelo de Montes, Ponte Gomail and the Guadalupe sanctuary, surrounded by forests and heritage sites.

STAGE 2

Codeseda - Rarís

From Codeseda, the route continues through oak groves, churches and manor houses towards the Ulla valley. The stage passes through Tabeirós and A Estrada before ending at the historic medieval bridge of Pontevea, the gateway to the province of A Coruña and the landscapes and forests of the Ulla area.
