Pardesoa
Category Village

The village of Santiago de Pardesoa, located in the municipality of Forcarei, lies in an area of great historical and natural richness. Its territory preserves evidence of human occupation dating back to prehistoric times, particularly on the nearby Mount Costoia, where archaeological remains have been discovered that demonstrate the antiquity of settlement in this area. Nearby there are also remains associated with the traditional use of snow by the Monastery of Aciveiro.

Within the village stands the parish church of Santiago, a building of medieval origin that has undergone several renovations over the centuries while preserving its traditional character. Santiago de Pardesoa is also home to two chapels: the Chapel of San Marcos, dating from the 17th century, and another located in the place of Fixó, from the 18th century, as well as several wayside crosses that form part of the characteristic religious landscape of the region and bear witness to the deep spiritual traditions of rural Galicia.

Santiago de Pardesoa also maintains a strong link with popular culture, as it is the birthplace of Diego de Cana, one of the most renowned bagpipers of the region. Surrounded by hills and meadows, the village preserves the essence of the Galician rural world, where history, landscape and tradition intertwine in an environment of remarkable authenticity.
