The Illas de Gres Recreation Area, located in Gres in Vila de Cruces, is one of the most singular river settings in the Ulla River valley. Here the waters of the Ulla and Deza rivers converge, creating a natural landscape of great beauty and ecological value. This environment consists of six river islands, which emerged after the impoundment of the Ulla River as it passes through Gres. They are connected to each other by wooden walkways and stone crossings, allowing visitors to explore them comfortably and enjoy a unique experience in contact with the river and the native vegetation.
The main islands have popular names that evoke local tradition and the strong emotional connection of local residents with the place: San Ramón Island, Os Namorados Island, A Palleta Island, Pachín Island and A Praia Island, each with its own charm and quiet resting spots. Altogether, they form a riverside recreation area highly appreciated by visitors, ideal for walking, swimming, picnicking or simply listening to the murmur of the water and the green riverside landscape.
A short distance away stands the medieval Ponte Ledesma Bridge, a magnificent structure with nine stone arches that reinforces the historical and scenic character of the surroundings. Its silhouette, reflected on the river, completes one of the most beautiful and photographed landscapes of Vila de Cruces, where history, nature and tradition come together.
