Quintillán Waterfall and Mill
River / Riverside environment
The Quintillán Waterfall is a small cascade located in the hamlet of Quintillán, in the municipality of Forcarei. It is formed on the Rego de Segón, a stream that flows down through wooded and rocky terrain. The water falls about three metres, creating a picturesque natural setting with a strong visual and acoustic appeal, especially during rainy periods when the water flow increases.
Next to the waterfall stands a traditional watermill, known as the Rego de Segón Mill or Quintillán Mill, which once used the force of the water to power its machinery and grind grain. The mill building has a rectangular structure with rubble masonry walls and originally contained a single millstone inside. The proximity of the waterfall allowed water to be channelled to the mill through a water channel, ensuring its operation.
Together, the mill and the waterfall form a charming spot where nature and rural tradition come together, much appreciated by hikers and visitors exploring the surrounding country paths. In addition, the nearby stone arch bridge facilitates access and adds historical interest to the site, recalling the traditional use of water resources in rural Galician life.
Today, this small enclave preserves the essence of the Galician rural landscape, where the sound of water, vegetation and traditional architecture create a place of great charm and tranquillity.
