The bridge over the Mera River, in the municipality of Silleda, is a small structure integrated into the rural landscape of the Deza region. This type of bridge emerged to facilitate communication between villages and paths, allowing crossings over waterways that, during periods of flooding, made passage difficult. Its presence is linked to the network of inland Galician routes, which were essential for local mobility and economic development for centuries.
These constructions were usually built at the most suitable points along the riverbed to ensure the stability and durability of the crossing, fulfilling an essential function for locals, muleteers and travellers over time.
Today, the Mera River bridge no longer preserves its original structure, but the site retains notable scenic value and lies on the A Laxe–Outeiro stage, a section shared by the Vía de la Plata (Sanabrés Way) and the Camino de Invierno.
