Pontiñas River Walk

Río Pontiñas
Category River / Riverside environment

The Pontiñas River Walk extends for approximately 9 kilometres, from the surroundings of the Lalín Municipal Auditorium to the vicinity of the Lalín 2000 industrial estate, although its most commonly used section runs for about 5 kilometres between the town centre and O Espiño. The route begins next to the auditorium, where an artificial lake, an open-air amphitheatre and a children’s playground create a leisure area integrated into the natural surroundings. In the first section the river remains hidden until reaching a pedestrian crossing on Arenosa Street, after which the river course becomes visible again when it reaches the A Travesía da Ponte road. From this point onwards a cycle lane joins the pedestrian route, clearly separated from it, allowing the path to be enjoyed both on foot and by bicycle. In this area there are stone sculptures created by local artists, as well as children’s play areas and a bio-healthy outdoor fitness park. The path continues beneath the Xosé Cuíña Bridge, leading to the longest section of the route, where the natural landscape becomes more prominent and numerous heritage and landscape elements appear. In the final section there are more than fifteen bridges, about a dozen traditional mills, a fountain and extensive oak groves, consolidating the riverside walk as one of the main green spaces in the town. The route ends at Lago do Espiño, a place for rest and enjoying the surroundings. From the path itself it is also possible to connect, through signposted and improved paths, with other places of interest such as the Lalín Arena sports complex, the Romanesque church of Donramiro and the A Romea promenade, reinforcing its role as a key axis for leisure and sustainable mobility in Lalín.
