The O Porco (pig) Monument is a sculpture dedicated to one of Galicia’s most emblematic gastronomic events, the Lalín Cocido Festival, which has been declared a festival of International Tourist Interest. Located in the urban area of Lalín, it has become part of the town’s everyday landscape and a symbol of the cultural identity associated with this celebration. Created in bronze by the Galician sculptor Manolo Rial, it was inaugurated on 18 February 2001 and has since become one of the most photographed and recognisable landmarks of the municipality. Its initial location sparked mixed opinions among local residents, although over the years it has become firmly established as a representative symbol of Lalín. The sculpture, placed directly on the pavement, stands out for its naturalism and careful modelling, in a proposal that combines humour, beauty and realism. It depicts a robust pig walking calmly, with a composition that highlights the volume of the body and the serenity of the movement. The work conveys a balanced and expressive image of the animal, combining sculptural realism with a symbolic character linked to the region’s livestock and gastronomic traditions. Conceived as a tribute to the pig, a central element of local culinary tradition, the sculpture reflects the cultural and economic importance of this animal in the area. Manolo Rial created a familiar and recognisable figure that, over time, has become one of the contemporary icons of Lalín and a visual reference for its gastronomic identity.
