The Town Hall Square of Lalín is a small public space located in the very centre of the town, next to the monument to Joaquín Loriga, one of the most emblematic sculptures in the locality, dedicated to the Lalín-born aviator known for his historic Madrid–Manila flight in 1926. This urban corner is very close to the municipal public library “Benito Varela Jácome”, housed in the building of the former town hall, making the square a place of social interaction at the heart of Lalín’s cultural and social life.
Its stone paving and well-maintained surroundings create a calm atmosphere, ideal for walking, sitting or taking a short break while exploring the town centre. The square is also home to the sculpture “Peregrino II”, a contemporary work installed in 2019 that symbolises the passage of pilgrims through Lalín along the Jacobean routes and welcomes those travelling the Vía de la Plata or the Camino de Invierno. Stone benches distributed throughout the square allow residents and visitors to rest outdoors while enjoying the urban and artistic environment.
In addition to its role as a meeting place, the square serves as a reference point within the pedestrian layout of central Lalín, connecting shopping streets, cultural spaces and other places of historical interest. The presence of sculptures and the proximity of municipal services make the square a key stop for those exploring Lalín’s centre and wishing to pause in one of the most representative spaces of the town’s urban life.
