Galicia’s Kilometre Zero

Rúa Monte Faro, 1
Category Monument

Galicia's Kilometre Zero is located in the urban centre of Lalín, marked by an ornamental plaque embedded in the pavement of a pedestrian area of the town. This symbolic point reflects the traditional perception of Lalín as a central place within the territory of Galicia and today functions as a tourist attraction and a local identity feature that draws the attention of both visitors and residents.

The marker consists of a circular stone arrangement at whose centre a metal plaque is placed, bearing the municipal coat of arms and the inscription “Km. 0”, creating a visually recognisable space within the urban layout. Its location in a commercial and busy area makes it a common spot for photographs and a point of reference for those exploring the town, becoming part of the daily life of Lalín as one of its most recognisable urban features.

Although the designation Kilometre 0 has a symbolic rather than strictly cartographic meaning, it reflects Lalín’s strategic position as a communications hub in the interior of Galicia, well connected to the main cities and routes of the region. This small urban landmark therefore represents the idea of Lalín as a meeting point and crossroads, where territory, mobility and local identity converge.
