Church of San Xoan de Meavía

Lugar Igrexa-Meavia
Category Church

The Church of San Xoán de Meavía is an 18th-century temple that stands out for its sober traditional architecture. The parish church has a hall plan and walls built of granite rubble masonry and ashlar, elements that give it solidity and historical character. Its two-pitched tiled roof completes a simple and harmonious exterior appearance.

From the original church, only an antefix cross is preserved, bearing witness to the temple’s earlier origins. The complex also includes an 18th-century stone cross (cruceiro), which reinforces the heritage value of the surroundings and its connection to local religious tradition.

Inside the church, two valuable sculptures of Saint John and the Virgin are preserved, attributed to the sculptor Juan Dávila and dated around 1650.

These pieces add notable artistic interest to the ensemble and constitute one of the main attractions for visitors to this historic church in the parish of Meavía.
