Asneiro River

Río Asneiro
Category River / Riverside environment

The Asneiro River is one of the rivers that flow through the interior of the Deza region and is a tributary of the Deza River. It rises in the municipality of Dozón and, over a course of around 29 kilometres, crosses rural landscapes and riverside woodland before flowing into the Deza River, forming a natural environment of great scenic value.

The river is part of a fluvial system of significant natural interest, located within the Ulla-Deza River Natural Fluvial Reserve, a protection status that recognises its ecological importance. Its course alternates calm stretches with small rapids and meanders, bordered by well-preserved riparian vegetation mainly composed of alders and willows, and supporting wildlife associated with river ecosystems, including species of special interest such as the Iberian desman and the long-tailed salamander.

Although some sections have been modified by traditional land uses, the Asneiro River still preserves a high degree of naturalness along much of its course. Throughout its route there are beautiful spots, small rest areas and stretches particularly suitable for walking, making this river a highly appreciated place for enjoying nature and the rural landscape of the Deza region.
