The Church of San Xoán do Sisto, located in the municipality of Dozón, is a parish church dating from the 16th century, notable for its stone architecture and the artistic richness preserved inside. The building consists of a single rectangular nave with an elevated apse and an attached sacristy, constructed in granite ashlar masonry, which gives it solidity and a sober appearance. On the exterior walls several sculptural elements of interest can be observed, such as figured modillions, carved crosses and decorative reliefs, testimony to the artistic tradition of the temple and its historical evolution.
The main façade, flanked by pilasters topped with pinnacles and crowned by a double-arched bell gable, combines structural simplicity with ornamental details characteristic of the transition between the late Gothic and the Renaissance. These features reflect the historical importance of the parish and its role within the territory during the Early Modern period.
Inside, the church houses one of the most remarkable sets of Renaissance mural paintings in Galicia, attributed to the so-called Master of Sisto and dated to 1522. The scenes, which cover a large part of the church walls, depict episodes from the Passion of Christ and the life of Saint John the Baptist, patron saint of the parish, with stylised figures and notable expressiveness. The presbytery is completed by an 18th-century main altarpiece dedicated to the saint.
